I didn't realize until recently how much I enjoyed reading memoirs, especially memoir essays. I'm glad to have this little window into your life.

I thought that by the time I was 30 (which seemed like proper adulthood then), I would have written my first novel, i.e. found my way. It helps to read about others older than I who have branched out and developed their gifts in ways they wouldn't necessarily have predicted.

I admire you for entering all these contests. I've never tried one yet and am slightly fearful of them. I know I have to start very soon, but I keep thinking I need to finish the rewrite first, and then when my editor is reviewing the manuscript, I'll have time to focus on writing contests.
